A 2016 report issued by the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security states that in FY 2016, 29 of 46 grant audit reports contained recommendations addressing the lack of adequate oversight. The report makes mention that states are not doing an adequate job of enforcing Federal regulations through effective and vigilant monitoring.
